PETER LEWER 1936 - 2009

I am deeply saddened to have to let everyone know that my closest friend Peter Lewer lost a short but courageous fight against cancer and slipped away peacefully last week. I have known Peter and his family for many years, he was always a regular visitor to the Fishery , whether to annoy everyone in the office, disappear up onto Heron to dip a rod tip for an hour or two, or to keep me company watching the footy or cricket. Our dogs adored him and he was often spotted walking them around the Fishery, stopping to chat to all the anglers. Though he would never walk them in the dark as he was a real “scaredy cat” when it came to creepy crawlies and slithery things in the grass!!!! Peter was probably our first honorary member, as he spent many hours on the site and in the Lodge in the 1980’s when the lakes were being dug and he certainly planted his fair share of Spring bulbs around the Fishery. My best friend Peter will be sorely missed by myself, the alsatians, all the staff and members of the Fishery. We all wish to pass on our sincere condolences to Joyce and the family and friends in Croydon.
“My visits to the Fishery from Bath will never be the same again without “mucker Pete” teasing me about my accent. I have fond memories of the Gatwick runs full of fun and laughter. Always remembered.” Ian Darke“Fond memories of regular dog walks around the Fishery, always good for laugh and constant mickey taking! A sad loss to everyone.” Dave Crunden“You were always guaranteed a laugh in Pete’s company, he was an utter nutter! God Bless you Pete.” Ted Kettle“My fondest memories of Pete will be his atrocious French accent, his dislike of the office coffee cups, not my coffee though and his smiley happy face.” Jan Hobson“How hard to believe that such a lovely person, Pete isn’t with us anymore. He was a jolly, always have a laugh man. Even the CPS engineers, Richard, Fred, Bill, Chris and James had a laugh with him. Even better if you supported Crystal Palace, but he always kept an eye on The Seagulls (Brighton & Hove Albion). I know Pete, you will be looking down on us!” With love Sheila and Guys at CPS Auxilion"A small verse sums up my thoughts, I often stop and wonder why, thorns live on while roses die, always in my thoughts Pete." Jon Hobson "I was listening to the radio yesterday and a song came on that perfectly described Peter. "Always look on the bright side of life". This to me encapsulates Peter's personality. Always happy, always smiling and always ready for a joke and chuckle. I will really miss you Peter. God bless x" Paula Church
"Having fished with Peter all my adult life from chubbing at Fladbury on the Avon, to sharking on the Florida Keys I can say what a very happy happy man. Maybe not the best of anglers BUT undoubtedly probably the most pleasant, caring, understanding man you could have met. My absolute deepest sympathy goes to all his family who all I consider as true friends. God rest your soul Peter." Colin & Susy Etherington xx
"Peter was a neighbour of ours for 30 years - you could not wish for a
more happier man. I have heard h is French accent, I do not know if it
was self taught or from French students, the latter I think have you
heard his singing? I believe he's hoping Palace will do well next
season . Lets hope they do in Petes memory." From Syl and Dave Burton
