There has been renewed interest in our tench this Season because they have been piling on the weight, so much so that we have decided to devote a complete page and a Roll of Honour to the tench catches recorded from now on.
We appreciate that our carp anglers are not all that interested in the tench, but it would be appreciated if any catches could be weighed and recorded, so we can have a full picture of their weight gain.
So don't forget to make your entries in the Record Book.
If you are interested there is a tench group which has been established since 1954 and has 235 members nationally and is in fact the oldest single species group in the U.K. The advent of the internet and open membership has seen number increase sevenfold since 2002.
Just a small selection of catches this Summer are:
Jeff Edisbury fished Kingfisher's peg 22 targeting the tench and was well rewarded with his new pb, a beauty weighing in at 10lb 13oz. He also logged three more tench that afternoon for a staggering total haul of 39lb 1oz.
A night session on Kingfisher finished with Tony Rand logging four tench to 8lb 6oz and capped his night with a superb common 40lb 4oz.
A three day session on Kingfisher's peg 26 saw B. Tullett record his first ever double figured tench, a beauty stopping the needle spot on 10lb.
While doing a tench session on Kingfisher Own Giles had ten of the old “red eyes”, with his best being a new pb at 10lb 4oz.
