3RD 348 HOUR CARP AND CATFISH
COMPETITION - SEPTEMBER 2011
Probably one of the slowest competitions since we started running the 48 Hour Comps, raw wind and a dramatic drop in temperature all contributed to the fish going off the feed.Friday evening was by far the most productive part of the week-end, with four fish being landed - Lou Stempien had a common 20lb 4oz from peg 16 - Glyn Jones had a cat of 49lb from peg 15 and Simon Plant had two fish, a cat of 36lb 9oz and a common of 13lb 3oz.
Saturday came and went with virtually all anglers sitting idle all day, the only exception being Paul Bridger who weighed in a cat of 11lb 11oz.Saturday evening just pipped the days' tally with two fish being banked - Paul Bridger landed a cat of 29lb 14oz, while Phil Cochrane got his competition contribution of the mark with one of our own grown cats of just 1lb!
Sunday - BLANK, BLANK and BLANK! All anglers blanked as the fish completely went off the feed! Most disappointing!!
Final positions:
1st Simon Plant 49lb 12 oz
2nd Glyn Jones 49lb 00oz
3rd Paul Bridge 40lb 11oz
2ND 48 HOUR CARP AND CATFISH
COMPETITION - JULY 2011
Our second 48 Hour Carp and Catfish Competitions started relatively slowly with only four anglers recording captures on the first night. Luke Hnedley in peg 17 had two mirrors or 12lb and 26lb 8oz, Gary Nichols had an 11lb 10oz koi from peg 12, John Streatfield had a cat of 31lb from peg 2 (more about this capture later on!) and Addie Appleby made a big claim for the trophy with a night haul of five cats of 14lb 8oz, 18lb, 24lb 12oz, 32lb 4oz and 31lb.
Likewise Saturday was hard going, as only four fish were recorded - a 9lb mirror for Gary Nichols, 13l 13oz cat for Matt Christelow from peg 13 and Lou Stempien got off the mark with two cats at 13lb 13oz and 29lb 9oz from peg 7, while Addie Appleby increased his lead with the capture of another cat of 20lb 4oz.
Satuday night saw two big cats landed, a 57lb 7oz for Tom Potter from peg 15 and a 63lb 8oz for Ian Keeler from peg 1, Ian also recorded a 23lb cat, so two nice fish for Ian. Other captures during the night were a 17lb 4oz common for Luke, a 31lb cat for John, two fish for Lou, a cat of 7lb 14oz, plus Lou's new pb common weighing in at an impressive 30lb 14oz. Colin Edwards recorded a 17lb 2oz common from peg 16 and Addie had a cat of 17lb 2oz and another of just 1lb (no -not a misprint!).
So to Sunday and with everyone trying to catch the leader, it turned out to be an anti-climax, as Addie was the only angler to catch on the final day with a 25lb 4oz cat.
Back to Friday night into Satuday morning, when Addie was playing a fish from peg 3, John had a pick-up from peg 3and pulled into what he believed to be his own run. Within only a few mintues with neither angler making any headway in landing their catch, it was suspected that they were into the same fish, most likely Addie's. So John put on his bait runner to allow Addie to play in his fish. Once the fish was landed and on the unhooking mat, it was decided that st the fish had both hooks securely in it mouth both anglers would be award the fish.
Final positions:
1st Addie Appleby 139lb 06oz
2nd Ian Keeler 86lb 08oz
3nrd Lou Stempien 8llb 04oz
1ST 48 HOUR CARP AND CATFISH
COMPETITION - JUNE 2011
The Friday night started well for three of the 10 participants - with Lou Stempien, Nick Webb and Addie Appleby all recording good cat captures. Lou posted two of 51lb 2oz and 22lb, Addie had two smaller cats of 23lb and 16lb and Nick landed four fish of 28lb, 41lb, 29lb, 20lb and 14lb.
Saturday daytime was slow for all anglers, with the exception of three, two had their first catch of the competition, that being Luke Cornelius and Glyn Jones - Luke had a cat of 33lb 1oz, while Glyn weighed in with a common of 15lb. The third angler to register was again, Nick Webb woth over 100lb ot cats - 34lb 9oz, 56lb and 27lb 4oz.
Saturday night saw more anglers getting off the mark! The nights catch reads as follows:
Lou Stempieb 28lb 14oz cat
Joe Stempien 17lb 13oz common
Luke Cornelius 20lb 16oz mirror
Nick Webb 35lb 2oz cat
Addie Appleby - an all cat catch of 20lb, 28lb and 37lb
Carl Francis 31lb cat
Simon Gardner - two cats of 46lb 3oz and 45lb 1oz
Sunday - traditionally the day of rest - really did apply to the fishing, as only one angler troubled the scoreboard, with Luke Cornelius banking a 17lb 12oz cat.
All in all a fantastic start to our three yearly 48 hour competitions with over 770lb of fish landed.
N.B. - if all lost fish had b een banked I'm sure we would have seen our first ever competition to break the 1000lb barrier!!!!!!
Final positions:
1st Nick Webb 271lb 13oz
2nd Addie Appleby 124lb 00oz
3rd Lou Stempien 102lb 00oz
SINGLES MATCH
SUNDAY 6TH FEBRUARY 2011
KINGFISHER LAKE
A few of our anglers decided that a singles match on a Sunday was in order, so nine of them spent a very pleasant day on Kingfisher in early February.
Stuart raced away with 19lb, followed by Andy Verrier's 7lb and Addie brought up the rear with 5lb 8oz.
CHRISTMAS CRACKER
