1ST 48-HOUR CARP & CATFISH
COMPETITION - JUNE 2008

Our first 48 hour competition of the Season got off to a slow start with only six fish being recorded during the first 12 hours.  One to Colin Essery fishing out of peg 20, who landed a koi of 13lb 14oz, an 11lb common for Dave Edwards on peg 13 and an 8lb 14oz mirror for his son fishing from peg 12.  The remaining three fish were recorded by Gary Furminger in peg 3, for a combined weight of 73lb 4oz, with heaviest being a cat of 34lb 8oz.

Saturday too was very slow for the anglers, with only five fish being banked.  Dave senior and  junior increased their tallys with a fish a piece,  a 12lb common for dad and a 20lb mirror for Dave junior.  However there was only one man doing the business again - Gary who landed two commons of 18lb 8oz and 22lb 4oz and a mirror of 21lb 4oz.

Moving into Saturday night Glyn Jones finally had some success and hung onto a cat of 49lb, after having hooked and lost three previously, while Dan Essery got off the mark with a 17lb 8oz common from peg 16.  Andy Verrier started staking a claim in landing a koi of 8lb 8oz and cat of 47lb from peg 11and Justin Holness had a good night session with a common of 20lb 4oz and two cats of 10lb 8oz and 20lb 4oz.

Although a relatively quiet night for Gary, he still captured a cat of 28lb 12oz - so heading into the final day Gary was leading, with Andy second and Glyn in third place.

Sunday continued at a slow pace, with only three fish being recorded.  The biggest of the day, a 34lb 2oz cat went to Andy , which was enough to secure him second place, while third went to Glyn, who only landed one fish all week-end, but the 49lb cat more than made Glyn's week-end.

Although Gary had a blank Sunday, his seven fish over the first 36 hours had been more than enough to see off his rivals!

So congrats to Gary for winning the first of our three annual events.

Final positions:

1st      Gary Furminger      164lb 12oz
2nd     Andy Verrier            89lb 10oz
3rd     Glyn Jones               49lb 00oz

2ND 48-HOUR CARP & CATFISH
COMPETITION - JULY 2008

The second of this year's competition was greeted with great anticipation by the 12 anglers, but were aware of just how hard the fishing was going to be!

The first 12 hours came and went with only three fish being recorded, a cat of 14lb fell to Matt Christelow from peg 15, while the other two came from peg 20, where Paul White landed two commons, one at 26lb 5oz and the other at 16lb 12oz.

Saturday was just as slow for runs, with again only three fish being banked. Brian Clarke took a cat of 22lb from peg 8, Dave Cromwell landed one of 19lb 12oz and Matt added to his tally with another cat of 24lb 4oz.

Saturday night and yet again there were only three fish to record,Colin Edwards got off the mark with a cat of 34lb from peg 7, Ian Darke also recorded his first fish with a cat of 34lb 8oz ans Steven Horrick landed a common of 16lb 4oz.

Sunday came and it was an even worse day for the anglers, as only one fish was banked, an 11lb common falling to Ian Keeler.

So at the end of the second competition it was Paul White's two fish haul on the first night that landed him first place, Matt coming in second and Ian taking third place.

Sadly in the all the years I have been adjudicating the competitions this one has been the worst for the amount of fish and total weights recorded!   Some you win some you loose!!!!!!

3RD 48-HOUR CARP & CATFISH
COMPETITION - SEPTEMBER 2008

The third of our annual events took place early September and got off to a much healthier start than the last one, as the anglers were getting amongst the fish right from the start.

The first 12 hours saw Mark Barrie record a cat of 46lb 2oz from peg 17.  Glyn Jones in peg 7 opened his account with a cat of 24lb 9oz, peg 11 gave Dave Cromwell a mirror of 15lb 23oz, Andy Verrier landed a cat of 16lb 8oz, while two other commons were landed one of 13lb 14oz and 9lb to Bob Williamson and Ryan Knight respectively.

During Saturday only five day fish were taken with the pick of the the bunch being a 36lb 2oz cat for Glyn Jones. Heading  into Saturday night the leader board had Glyn in 1st place, with Mark Barrie in 2nd and Ryan Knight in 3rd.

Saturday night was a hell of a night for Ryan, he recorded an all carp catch of over 125lb from peg 12. Totally ignoring the shallows to his left, instead he fished 30 yards straight out in front of him to land a total of seven fish.

Sunday, they say the day of rest - well this certainly applied to the fishing ,as only Ryan added to his already mpressive tally with two more fish. A mirror of 25lb 8oz and a common of 15lb. Ryan's total haul for the week-end was made up of all carp, which made his final total weight even more impressive.

Final positions:

1st Ryan Knight           197lb 01oz
2nd Glyn Jones             127lb 10oz
3rd Dave Cromwell       110lb 00oz
