1ST 48 HOUR CARP AND CATFISH COMPETITION - JUNE 2009
Friday pmThe first of our three annual 48 hour comps got of to a very slow start with only three anglers recording catches during the first night.
Those being Glyn Jones with a 15lb 8oz common from peg 15, Stuart Nesbitt with a cat of 43lb from peg 8 and Gareth Rose with a 21lb common and a 20lb 8oz cat from peg 16.Saturday dayThe following day proved no more fruitful for the frustrated anglers, as no carp or cats showed during the day.
However as it had been decided to allow bream fishing during daylight hours, a few of the anglers did have some sport. Notably Ian Darke who mustered an impressive bag of 60lb and Anthony Stroud also found some feeding bream and recorded a bag of 22lb 4oz.Saturday pmSaturday night/Sunday morning was again very slow for all anglers, only two anglers troubled the leader board. Glyn Jones had a cat of 32lb 13oz and Dan Essery with another cat of 47lb.Sunday dayOnly two commons and a cat were recorded during Sunday, bringing our first comp to a very slow conclusion! The cat went to Anthony Stroud at 16lb and the two commons to Luke McGeary at 10lb 8oz and Gareth Rose at 13lb.Ian Darke decided that as the big fish were not playing ball, he would put all his eggs into one basket and make a determined bid to win the comp just fishing for bream. His gamble paid off, as his Sunday haul of 47lb 4oz gave him a final tally of 108lb 10oz, which was enough to beat off the other anglers who had sat out for the bigger fish!Final positions: 1st Ian Darke 108lb 1oz (all bream catch)2nd Anthony Stroud 72lb 10oz3rd Dan Essery 68lb 2oz
SECOND 48 HOUR CARP AND CATFISH COMPETITION – JULY 2009
Friday pm
The first 12 hours of the second competition proved much better than the first comp as five of the anglers recorded catches.
Dave Cromwell lead the way with a bag of 67lb 4oz, Luke McGeary had three fish for 42lb and Craig Jones recorded 28lb 12oz.
Saturday day
Paul Edwards followed in Ian Darke’s footprint by targeting the bream from peg 1 (it was the same swim that Ian had fished from in the first competition) and had a good haul of 53lb 6oz.
Darren Holmes had his first two fish of the comp with a common of 18lb and a koi of 11lb 4oz.
Lewis Jones fishing peg 8 had a cat of 26lb 8oz, while Luke McGeary landed a cat of 20lb and Matt Christelow got off the mark with a cat of 20lb 2oz.
However the early leader was Dave Cromwell when he landed a cat of 24lb 8oz to remain in first place.
Saturday pm
Dave Cromwell had three more fish during the night session, more or less wrapping up the top position as they totalled 93lb!
Sunday day
It was all but up for the first spot, but second and third were both there to be had!
So with Brian Clarke banking 50lb 1oz of fish on the final day, that secured him second place.
Third place finally went to an all bream week-end of 96lb to Paul Edwards.
Final positions:
1st Dave Cromwell 212lb 14oz 2nd Brian Clarke 102lb 13oz 3rd Paul Edwards 96lb
N.B. The biggest fish of the competition fell to Lewis Johnson with a beautiful cat of 49lb 8oz
