MARCH 2011
Early March saw Ian Cox make his first trip of the year onto Kingfisher and got "off the mark" with a common of 30lb 12oz and a koi of 28lb 8oz.
Then hardly any activity, until Peter Fraser had a night on Kingfisher and put our common, Fatlip on the bank at 41lb 11oz.
Dave Farmer also had his first trip of the year on Kingfisher and landed our common, Scar at 30lb 2oz, together with a 22lb 8oz koi and a 6lb 8oz tench.
Our bailiff Stuart Nesbitt decided to have a go for the tench one night and landed a beauty of 9lb 2oz, tempting it with bloodworm pop up.
The first recorded catfish of the year is credited to Graham Kettle - a 47lb 8oz lump from Heron, together with a 24lb mirror.
First session, first fish of the year for A. Alderson was a 25lb koi from Heron's peg 46.
Barrie Allen's first session and first fish of the year was a new pb cat of 64lb, nicknamed "Red", after his red fin. Only to be accompanied by another cat of 40lb.
A session on Kingfisher for Dave Povey produced a 25lb 8oz koi on pop up - and his is looking forward to coming back in a couple of weeks.
A 44lb 5oz catfish gave R. Henderson a great fight from Mallard's peg 15.
APRIL 2011
Karl Francis returned after a two year absence from the Fishery, he had a hard three day session on Mallard, but it was worth the wait with a 49lb cat.
Rob Wyld had an all cat bag of eight fish from 10 to 45lb - kept him busy!
Brian Lovegrove and Holly Warner had a fabulous week on Heron. Brian's recent catch log was nothing much to brag about, so he was absolutely delighted with a 32lb common, smashing his pb to bits. He cant wait to get bank on the bank! Holly also had a very respectable catch of three commons of 22, 24 and 28lb.
A mixed carp and cat bag for Graeme Williamson - three cats of 29lb 8oz, 41lb 2oz and 44lb 9oz, plus a 17lb 2oz and 23lb 2oz common.
A first visit to the Fishery for Kevin Jepson-Smith gave him a taste of our cats - he landed four of 10lb, 2 x 16lb and one of 19lb - he is coming back very soon!
"Hard fishing, but loving every minute he is here" is what Ian Cox had to say about his session on Kingfisher - recording a mirror of 20lb 8oz and two commons of 20lb 4oz and 30lb 9oz.
All all cat session for Ben Watson smashed his pb twice - nice cats in total, best being 60lb 12 oz - the first 60 of the season!!!!!
Only a few days later, first time session for Jacob and Anthony Bourne delivered our best cat so far! Jacob landed a 66lb 4oz, while Anthony had cats of 44lb and 33lb. Guess they will be back soon!
New reels for M. Barrett worked well and landed him cats of 20lb and 30lb.
A mid April session for Ian Cheshire sent him back to work "a happy man" after landing a 29lb 5oz common on cell.
A first time 72 hour session on Mallard's peg 11 for father and son, Mark and Josh Norman gave them "the time of our lives." Between them they had 25 cats, including eight twenties, three thirties and best being 55lb 8oz.
A four night session for Glyn Jones on Mallard became an epic session, this is Glyn's own catch report:
"I arrived at Wintons Fishery on Sunday the 11/04/2011 to start a four night session on Mallard Lake. After talking to the anglers leaving, I decided to fish peg 7 the Patio Swim.
I did not have to wait long for the action to start, as at 20:30 I had a double hook up, which resulted in two cats, the best being 47lb. The action then continued throughout the night, which resulted in 12 more runs and nine more cats the highlights being two cats of 41lb and 43lb.
During the day Monday I had six runs resulting in five cats, the best being a pb of 56lb. Monday night resulted in 11 runs and 10 cats, the best being 27lb.
Tuesday during the day, I had three runs which resulted in three cats the best being 32lb. Tuesday night then produced seven runs which produced five cats, the best being 39lb and a 24lb common carp.
Wednesday day produced one run, a cat of 16lb. Wednesday night I had two runs, which resulted in two cats, the best being a cat of 30lb.
On Thursday only five minutes prior to finishing at midday, I completed my session with a cat of 38lb.
To sum up during the session I had:
45 runs, lost six fish, but had 39 fish - five singles,13 doubles,10 twenties, six thirties, three forties and one fifty all cats and a twenty common.
The best fishing session of my life. The fish were caught using rods purchased from Alan in his shop and Shimano longcast Reels. Thanks to Alan and Stuart of Wintons for all the help and advice over the time I have fished Wintons which helped produce this catch of a lifetime."
Rob Wyld returned with his son, Owen (aged 10) for a session on Mallard. Owen landed three cats of 15lb, 20lb and 25lb, while dad had cats of 28lb, 52lb, 56lb and 61lb.
Only the second cat caught by Adam Cheal, turned out to be a monster of 54lb 4oz, bet that took him by surprise!
Dave Povey only had to wait a few days to return the Fishery for another session after his successfull Easter trip -"Baby Up Front" common at 31lb, Scar at 30lb 2oz and five tench to 8lb 4oz.
A three cat bag was a "good session" for D. Grimmett - 35lb 4oz, 38lb 2oz and 42lb 6oz.
Dave Berry Junior "loved" his session on Mallard'as peg 7, recording 15 cats, best being 49lbs. Whilst dad, Dave Senior had a superb week with 11 cats, best being 54lb 8oz.
A first 48 hours session for Ben Browning on Mallard gave him tw pb's! Two cats of 51lb 8oz and 58lb 4oz!!
Dave Farmer was back on Kingfisher just after Easter and was well chuffed with "The Big Mirror" at 44lb 4oz and a "stunning black common" of 27lb 8oz.
Brendan Rider was happy to double is pb with a 48lb 6oz cat from Mallard.
A first time visit for Joshua Horne resulted in a 61lb pb cat and a 51lb cat for Horne Junior too!!
A slow carp session for Nick Webb gave him the incentive to have a go for the cats instead! He recorded a "wicked" week with 24 cats, best being 60lb 4oz.
Mick "the Leg" Ashcroft celebrated his 60th with a week on Kingfisher - he recorded 19 tench from 6 to 11lb, best male was 8lb 12 oz and best female 11lb, plus a 19lb common.
Having lost two carp earlier, landing our common "Fat Lip", gave Ben Watson a new pb.
Then again only 48 hours later, after a four year wait for Mick Everingham to catch a 40 pounder, "Fat Lip" graced his net at 42lb 6oz.
MAY 2011
A week on Heron form Lee Mitchell gave him a seven cat haul, best being 45lb.
Rudgie took a new pb from Heron with a 57lb cat.
Glyn Jones was back for some more cat punishment, this time five days gave him - four singles, 11 doubles, 14 twenties, three thirties and three fifties of 59lb 3oz, 53lb and 54lb.
Colin Taylor had a five cat session over two days, best being a new pb of 30lb.
Mallard's peg 3 gave Jason Craven a relaxing session, with six cats between 31lb and 54lb 4oz. Fishing the same session Neal Rodgers had a new pb cat of 52lb.
A couple of days on Kingfisher for Joe Stempien, rewarded him with three tench between 7-8lbs, a common of 20lb 3oz and mirror of 19lb 5oz all on "cell".
Dave Farmers' week on Kingfisher with his father Chris, saw some good action. Dave landed our "Big Mirror" at 43lb 13oz, the "Pretty Common" at 41lb 14oz, "Fat Lip" common at 41lb 10oz and a nice 26lb 6oz orange koi. Whilst Chris was after the tench, landing five between 7-9lbs. What a good week!!!!!!!
A brace of forty pounder cats graced Trev Little's net from Mallard's peg 15, one of 44lb 12oz and 48lb.
Ian Darke's first visit of the season resulted in two 45lb cats - he was glad to be back!!
A two "blanking streak" for Roy Alderson finally came to and end when he landed his first carp of the season! A 22lb mirror carp on Fusion - we was "well happy!"
Brian Clark was also back for his first visit of the season and landed a haul of 13 cats, best being 39lb 12oz.
Ian Keeler had a "monster" 59lb pb cat - getting nearer to the 60!!!!!!
An all cat bag of six fish gave David Sealy his pb of 46lb 8oz.
Well done to Will Ward for landing a 30lb 8oz common fro Kingfisher - no pic though!
Still waiting for the forty - but David Povey did well with a 22lb 10oz mirror, 26lb 12oz koi, 25lb 4oz grass carp and another koi of 21lb 4oz.
